What this calculator does

Mechanical (HVAC) permits use one of two pricing models. Tonnage-based (preferred): $75 base + $25 per ton of cooling capacity. Valuation-based (fallback when tonnage unknown): 0.3% of project valuation. Both adjust regionally via the BidFlow City Cost Index.

What affects the fee

Cooling tonnage - most accurate input. 1 ton ≈ 12,000 BTU/hr of cooling capacity.
Project type - residential and tenant improvement scaled below commercial-new.

How to Estimate Building Permit Costs Before You Bid
